Wood Sawdust Briquette Machine: Common Faults & Troubleshooting Guide

Wood Sawdust Briquette Machine: Common Faults & Troubleshooting Guide.

The wood sawdust briquette machine is the core forming equipment in the charcoal production line. During long continuous operation, it frequently suffers from electrical faults, motor failure to start, and insufficient heating temperature.

Many novice operators only shut down the machine blindly for inspection when faults occur. They fail to identify root causes and delay production. Based on practical workshop experience, we sort out the three most frequent faults of briquette machines. Each section includes fault symptoms, root causes and actionable solutions. These are proven maintenance tips from senior technicians — straightforward and practical.

1. Power Indicator Light on Control Panel Off (No Power to the Whole Machine)

Fault Symptom

After closing the main switch, the power indicator on the control panel stays completely off. The machine shows no power response and cannot start production.

Main Causes

  1. Poor power connection: loose, disconnected or poorly wired cables; main switch not closed or broken circuit, cutting off power supply to the machine.
  2. Blown fuse: overload, short circuit or sharp voltage fluctuation will blow the fuse and cut off power. This is one of the most common causes.
  3. Damaged indicator light: power supply is normal, but the indicator bulb or lamp holder is aged and burnt out. Only the light fails; the machine itself can still get power.

Practical Solutions

  1. First inspect the whole power supply circuit. Switch on the main power supply. Check all cable connectors one by one. Tighten loose or disconnected wires. Check cables for damage or open circuit to ensure stable power input.
  2. Open the electric control box of the machine and check the fuse. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a fuse of exactly the same specification and model. Never use fuses with different ratings to avoid secondary faults.
  3. If power supply, circuit and fuse are all normal while the light remains off, the indicator light is defective. Replace the indicator bulb directly. This fault will not affect machine operation.

2. Motor Fails to Start (Power On, but Machine Does Not Rotate)

Fault Symptom

Power indicator lights up normally. The machine is powered. However, after pressing the start button, the briquette machine motor has no response and cannot run to feed raw materials and make briquettes.

Main Causes

  1. Damaged control button: frequent pressing and wire aging cause poor contact or button failure. The start signal cannot be sent to the motor.
  2. Phase loss of three-phase power: This is a high-frequency fault for three-phase motors. It is usually caused by loose wiring, broken cable or missing phase from the main power supply. Sometimes accompanied by a low humming sound from the motor.
  3. Mismatched voltage or frequency: low or unstable on-site voltage, or power frequency inconsistent with the rated parameters of the machine. The motor lacks starting load and cannot rotate.

Practical Solutions

  1. Test the sensitivity of start and stop buttons on the control console. Replace malfunctioning, stuck or poorly contacted control buttons with original matching parts to restore control signals.
  2. Carefully inspect three-phase power cables. Check terminals for each phase. Retighten loose connections and repair broken wires to solve phase loss. Prevent motor idling and burnout risks.
  3. Use a multimeter to test on-site voltage and frequency, and compare readings with machine rated parameters. Install a voltage stabilizer if voltage fluctuates. Adjust power supply promptly if parameters do not match to ensure normal motor startup.

3. Slow Heating, Temperature Cannot Reach the Required 350℃ for Briquetting

Fault Symptom

The machine starts normally and the motor runs well. However, the heating system heats up extremely slowly. The temperature cannot reach the standard 350℃ required for briquette making. Raw materials cannot soften, and qualified briquettes cannot be extruded.

Main Causes

  1. Low working voltage: insufficient workshop voltage or overloaded circuit reduces the power supply of heating rings. Heat generation drops sharply and temperature cannot rise to target.
  2. Aged or damaged heating rings: Resistance heating rings work under high temperature continuously. Burnout or partial damage reduces heating power, which is the main reason for temperature control failure.
  3. Mismatched wiring for heating rings: If replacement wires for heating rings do not follow original factory standards. Too small wire gauge or wrong model leads to insufficient power transmission, poor heating and slow temperature rise.

Practical Solutions

  1. Regularly test the working voltage of the machine. If voltage is low or unstable, check circuit load. Install a voltage stabilizer when necessary to guarantee sufficient power supply for the heating system.
  2. Cut off power and shut down the machine before checking heating rings. Replace aged, burnt or unevenly heated resistance heating rings with brand-new original ones to meet rated heating power.
  3. When replacing heating ring cables, strictly follow original factory specifications for wire type and gauge. Do not use low-quality or mismatched wires. Maintain stable power supply to eliminate slow heating fundamentally.

Maintenance Summary

These three common faults of wood sawdust briquette machines are mostly caused by electrical issues, wearing parts or non-compliant power parameters. They are not complicated failures.

Carry out regular inspections. Periodically check vulnerable components including wires, fuses and heating rings. Timely troubleshooting can reduce downtime, stabilize heating temperature and maintain continuous high briquette output.
