Sorghum Straw Carbonization Equipment Process Introduction

Sorghum Straw Carbonization Equipment Process Introduction

With the rising awareness of environmental protection, the scientific and efficient utilization of agricultural waste has become an important topic.
Sorghum straw disposal has drawn widespread attention.
Traditional disposal methods such as open burning and simple composting
cause serious environmental pollution and waste of recyclable resources.

This article introduces the complete carbonization process for sorghum straw.

1. Process Overview of Sorghum Straw Carbonization

Sorghum straw carbonization turns biomass waste into clean green energy.

The whole workflow consists of four key procedures:

drying, crushing, carbonization and cooling.

Sorghum straw is converted into high-calorific-value biochar.

Meanwhile, the combustible gas generated during production can be recycled and reused.

2. Drying Treatment

Sorghum straw is dried by natural sunlight or industrial hot air dryers

to reduce its internal moisture.

The moisture content must be reduced to below 15%

before entering the next process.

Low moisture ensures higher carbonization efficiency

and stable quality of finished biochar.

3. Material Crushing

Dried sorghum straw is shredded by cutting and crushing equipment.

Crushing reduces material size and increases specific surface area,

which facilitates full carbonization in the furnace.

It also improves the combustion performance of the final charcoal product.

Continuous carbonization furnaces are the ideal choice for straw materials,

with low production cost and large processing capacity.

For this reason, sorghum straw must be crushed in advance.

4. High-temperature Carbonization

Crushed sorghum straw is fed into the carbonization furnace.

Under oxygen-free or low-oxygen environment,

materials are thermally treated at a constant temperature of 300–500°C.

The continuous carbonization furnace allows adjustable temperature

and controllable carbonization time.

Volatile components inside the straw are fully removed,

leaving high-carbon solid biochar.

5. Sealed Cooling Process

After carbonization, high-temperature biochar needs rapid cooling to room temperature.

This step prevents re-oxidation and spontaneous combustion,

so as to retain higher fixed carbon content.

The discharge end of the continuous carbonization furnace

is equipped with a water cooling system for safe and fast cooling.

6. Application and Value of Sorghum Straw Biochar

6.1 Clean Energy Fuel

Sorghum straw biochar serves as eco-friendly clean fuel

with low pollution and high combustion efficiency.

6.2 Economic Benefit

This technology converts waste agricultural residues into high-value products,

increasing extra income for local farmers.

6.3 Soil Conditioner

Biochar can optimize soil structure and increase organic matter content.

It effectively improves soil fertility and farmland crop productivity.
